“Does Islam apply today?” “Is it not backward?” “How can it solve the problems today when we have so much technology and have advanced so much, whereas Islam was revealed at the time where the camel was the mode of transport and people would not have even dreamt about the internet?”

These are some of the questions posed to Muslims in their day to day living in Europe and in fact other parts of the world.

This week we tackle this subject and counter these arguments. Are they really valid and are they really strong arguments.. Or does Islam have something to say for today. Can it cope with technology? What does it have to say about Genetics and going to the moon?

Then there is also the other side of the argument, does just having technology mean that we can solve the human problems faced by millions, be it their personal lives or social/societal problems?
Have a listen and find out.

Who Will Defend Islam & How?
icon1 Qaisar | icon2 Current Issues | icon4 Friday 24th Jul, 2009, 9:34 PM| icon3No Comments »

Every generation of the Muslim Ummah throughout history has faced trials and tribulations.
Today is no different, with the demise of the Khilafah, the assaults placed on Islam come thick and fast and the tests places on the Muslim Ummah are all to clear.

Here in the UK the attack is on the Quran and the Aqueeda of Islam, from the rules and guidelines of Allah (SWT) to the personality of our Noble prophet(SAW).

So in times like this, where so many are scared to speak out, who will defend Islam?
This week we have had two talks, the first one addressing who should be the ones who should carry and defend Islam, our creator, and the Rasool(saw).

But we have also addressed how this should be done. As with anything in Islam, Allah (swt), our Rasool (saw) and the Sahabah (may Allah be pleased with them) have shown us how this should be done and this is the second of our talks.

The Sharia, the Rules of Allah (swt), is one of the many things in Islam that is talked about today in a derogatory way to try and remove the confidence from the minds of the Muslims.

It is often termed barbaric or oppressive by those who really don’t understand it or its purpose or how it is even implemented.

This week’s talks discusses the issue of the Sharia from the perspective of the punishment system and as a preventative measure to remove crime from the society so that the innocent don’t have to lock themselves up in their property or anchor any possessions with a steel cable. We also discuss how the Sharia is more than just the punishment system and how it is a framework to run life’s affairs to prevent and if the inevitable happens, to resolve problems.

We also compare Islam to the Western judicial system and whether it actually works in preventing crime or even bringing the level down. Whether it brings security and peace of mind to the people in society, or is it just another part of a system that is out of sync with the mindset of the rest of society, it’s culture and behaviour – and hence fails as a result?

Barack Obama has made his Middle East visit.  It was heralded as the new stance of the USA to the Muslim world.

This week’s talks goes into depth regarding the speech given by the US president in Egypt, breaking down the many points used to try and woo the Muslims around the world.

We point out how the stance really has not changed towards the Muslims in the middle ease or  the world, even if Salaam was given at the beginning of the speech. We also discuss how this stance is more dangerous to the Muslims than Obama’s predecessors.

The news for the past 15 days has been full of the stories of MPs, their expenses and their corruption.

The general public is in outrage! They want the MPs to step down, pay back the money, and even face criminal prosecution.

Yet these politicians give a simple verbal apology, in some cases pay back some nominal amount compared to the years of pilfering they had carried out, showing contempt for the public and are allowed to carry on with their Jobs.

Yet it is these same people who have the audacity to accuse Islam of having a lack of an accountable government referring to all the dictators that rule the Muslim world today as examples. The question then needs to be asked; how did all this corruption get carried out in the plain site of the public, for decades, in Britain today? How and why was it concealed? Where did the accountability or the notion of an accountable government go?

This week’s circle discusses how Islam does have an accountable government and how this accountability works. The speaker then goes on to how this accountable government would work again in todays reality whereas it has failed miserably in the West today.

The Government wants to make Sex and Relationship Education mandatory from the age of 4! What does this mean for the Muslim Community?

Do we want to see sex outside of marriage, illegitimate children, abortions, homosexuality? Because this what it will encourage or do we have an alternative as Muslims?

This week’s talk discusses this issue in detail and goes into details of why the government feels that it needs to teach 4year old children this subject. Is it to a reaction to a problem in society?

Below is the Text for of a speech by Abdullah of Saudi at the Kuwaiti Economic conference on the 20th of Jan 2009 - Less than a week after the Gaza Massacre.

“Dear Dignitaries, I greet you with the formal Islamic greeting: “Peace be with you.”

We, along with the entire peoples of the Arab nation, aspire for definite results from this economic summit; results that bring glad tidings of security and prosperity for all Arabs and Muslims everywhere.
Economy, however, no matter how vital, cannot equal life itself, nor does it replace dignity without which no life is worth living. In the past few days we witnessed images that are so repulsive, bloody, and painful, massacres committed in full view of the world by criminal hoodlums whose hearts know no mercy, and whose chests retain not an iota of human compassion.

The joy and excitement that you experience at the birth of your child, is almost impossible to describe in words. As you hold your child in your arms for the first time; your mind begins to wander as to what the future may hold for your child living in the West.
And then the sleepless nights begin.
Should I send them to state school, private school or Islamic school?
How will I stop my child from being another one of the youth that just hang about on the street?
How will I protect them from the influences of kufr?
In this, the final circle of the series, the speaker, a father of four, will outline the influence of society in shaping the personalities of children and offer some practical advice to parents on how best to bring up children.

(Please note - Subjects may change due to current issues)

Balkanization of Pakistan

Ever since the Pakistan Army ventured into FATA in its quest to uproot the alleged al-Qaeda elements operating there, there have been numerous incidents of civilian casualties. Some of these have come as a result of the army’s operations while others have been the result of increased attacks by missile-equipped Predator unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) operated by the CIA and the U.S. military.

Is this an undeclared War on Pakistan?, Is America planning to split Pakistan?
These and related issues will be discussed at the circle.

Speaker: Lorasib Ali
